Somehow it is already time for Dragoncon 2022, a yearly excursion for me where I spend Labor Day with a bunch of partying nerds, and at this point I feel like I’ve managed to become at least drinking buddies, if not friends, with like a solid 10% of them.
I’ll be hosting signings at my table, #117, in the AmericasMart (where all of the shopping is, as well as Artist Alley.) If you walk into the Artist Alley, you can’t miss me, here’s a map - the left side where it says ‘Artist Alley Check-In’ is where you enter and the yellow zone is me, and probably some other really cool comics people, too.
And here’s my schedule - I’ve got a panel every day, and I’ll be around at night with the rest of the nerds. If you see me, say hi!
I leave Thursday, but my week until then is full of busy catch up - finishing scripts, applying notes, scheduling my months out. Thankfully, this is my last convention for a while, as my schedule is about to get nuts.
I’m working on a new project, something totally unexpected and exciting that’s going to turn out to be a huge part of my 2023 and beyond. Like a lot of the opportunities I’ve been lucky enough to have, this one leapt into my lap when I needed it.
“I miss writing [something,]” I was complaining aloud to my husband and cats in the privacy of my home.
“Hi,” a wonderful editor said seemingly out of nowhere. “Do you want to write [a project that allows me to explore the thing I miss in a big way?”
Hell yes, I said. I’m a very lucky woman. And I know it. Thanks for supporting what I’ve got going on.
(AT LEAST, RECENTLY)
I got my first shot at the Dark Knight with my favorite co-writer Blake Howard in Batman: Urban Legends #18. The amazing Max Raynor drew us an amazing tale of a Batman who is still living in the shadow of Jason Todd’s death, and haunted by his nightmares. No better reason for us to use the amazing Doctor Destiny.
Catwoman #46 came out, turning up the heat in Gotham once more with an explosive confrontation between Eiko Hasigawa and Selina Kyle. I love it in Gotham. As a reminder, if you’re digging either of these books, either Blake and I co-writing together (as in our Urban Legends story) or the story of criminal Gotham I’ve been brewing up in Catwoman, you’ll definitely want to pre-order Punchline: The Gotham Game #1, out in October.
KNIGHTS OF X #5, OUT 8/31
The conclusion to our epic quest, many things are set in place…for what comes next.
That’s all I’ll say about that. Leaving you all to read it for yourselves.
Quick newsletter this week before con travel eats my schedule once again, but I’ll be back next week, and we’ll be back in production mode on PHENOMENOCITY.
Stay weird, talk soon!
