9.1. house-made ravioli stuffed with crimini mushrooms and ricotta cheese
Sorry if I made you hungry. It’s all I can think about right now.
Welcome to the lunch rush.
Hey, Happy Thursday. After what feels like months of chaos it feels like I’m back in the pilot seat. August and September were full of deadlines met while I was almost entirely on the road, and October was full of deadlines while spending every second I wasn’t working enjoying my favorite month of the year. Halloween Horror Nights, scary movies, aforementioned ravioli, attending dark clubs in costumes, lots of candy. And my birthday, of course. A great time.
This is just gonna be a quick note to update you all and drop some links and say hello, so let’s get into it:
EXCALIBUR #25: NOVEMBER 10
I have gotten a lot of questions about the future of Excalibur. And I realize I’ve been silent, and with the sort of person I am, that silence can mean “I am not interested in discussing that yet, for my own nefarious reasons,” or it can mean “I don’t want to talk about it because things ended badly.”
You can be assured that this is the first one. Can’t say much, but we’ve built a big, big, big Otherworld, and you all seem to love it as much as I do.
Gee, I hope nothing bad happens to it.
EXCALIBUR 25 out NOVEMBER 10!
WORLD OF DARKNESS: CRIMSON THAW
Our first event comic, spinning out of VAMPIRE THE MASQUERADE: WINTER’S TEETH.
I have to be honest with you guys - my name first on these solicits baffles me. Blake Howard has been driving the hell out of this bus and I’m sort of sitting in the back marveling at the view. Really. He deserves all the praise coming his way. The first issue is out now and it’s blowing minds all over the World of Darkness - Blake and I have been particularly tickled about some of the reactions to this issue.
A reminder that if you’re a V:tM player, each issue contains gaming content written by Blake for you to use at your tables, which is one of my favorite things I’ve ever seen in a comic. Read it and like the ideas? Want to use those ideas in your vampire the masquerade game? The rules are already written up in the back of the book. Love it.
Oh, and if you have no idea what World of Darkness or Vampire: the Masquerade is, click here, babe.
CATWOMAN #39
In case you missed it, I’m taking over the Cat in January with the incredible Nico Leon and Jordie Bellaire. Still working my ass off on this wild story. Still planning things for the far future that will change Gotham forever.
Still can’t believe this is part of my job. Nico is a genius and we have been lit up with energy for this book, just pouring our thoughts back and forth excitedly into each others’ brains and getting better and better stuff back each time.
I love writing this book. Please enjoy this shiny Sozomaika variant. Mrow.
WHAT ELSE?
If you’re not a subscriber to 3W3M, you should be. Not only is it a really cool way to watch a world built in real time (one I had a hand in creating, which you’ll get to see more of soon), but premium subscribers get access to really fun stuff. I went over there this week to livewatch David Lynch’s Dune with Hickman, Mike Huddleston, and Mike Del Mundo, and It was really nice to watch that movie in a room where I wasn’t the sole person defending it, I’ll tell you that much. The post with all our (occasionally timestamped) commentary is still up, so if you feel compelled to learn about our deep cut opinions on Caladan fashion and Sting’s naked chest, enjoy.
The other members of my TQS cohort are present on Substack - Vita and Leah! Vita’s most recent post is a special cookie recipe they make for loved ones, and Leah’s is about an internet conspiracy rabbit hole, so you can get a pretty good idea of what kind of content those two are about. Love them.
Stay weird. Talk soon. Log off and give your brain a little break this week if you can.

Thanks for the reminder to unplug for a bit! So excited to see you in Gotham.
Is Selina going to have a new love interest in this run? I know BatCat is the big thing right now and while I love that it might be interesting to see Selina just being her. Follow up, will we see her with the falcones again when she’s infiltrating the crime underworld, or will she be tackling other criminals. I’ve read your run of Hack/Slash so I’m excited to see your work on Catwoman!
